Vote or Die! Mwaa-ha-ha-ha!

I'm having trouble with this "be more evil" thing (which would surprise my family, let me tell you). Suggestions are welcome.

I've rejected "Slush Puppies" as just too cute. I have similar, but less strong, feelings about "Anonymice"; also my readers don't seem terribly mouse-like to me. Still, there's a proud tradition of mice in children's lit. Do you see a mouse?

"Slushies" reminds me for some reason of Thugees, that evil cult in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I disliked the movie, but I like the evil cult thing.

"Anonymati" does seem like a secret society, which has debatable application here. Unless it's an evil secret society? At the same time, I like "Anonymati" (as well as "Slushies" and "Peons") for clarity: a brand-new reader will have at least a fighting chance of figuring out that I'm addressing my readers when I use it. Not so much with "Mice", "Ablatives", "Queries", or "Snarfles".

But maybe we don't care. It could be like hazing, which is at least a little bit evil, right? Ugh, who can think with this evil cold? You guys decide. I'm going to go have an evil nap.

I went for Anonymati; it sounds mysterious and somewhat literary.

Do we get badges?

Still game for 'Slushies'.

To be truly evil, you will need a wand--or a staff--oh! a lance!--that can debilitate your minions with random slushie brain freezes.

Here's to finding your inner evil...good luck!

Great evil laugh! :-)

I voted for snarfles.

Mice sounds too meek. Sushies makes me think of 7-11 and I haven't a clue how to pronounce Anonymati.

I vited snarfles because it at least sounds like surf, or peon, minion, or snarklings... as if we (and aren't we?) your underlings and are taking pride in it.

Anonymati-- sort of rhymes with Illuminati!

Can I be the Albino Assasin??? (Not an Albino, but I DO have the "Irish-burns-after-30-seconds-of-sunlight-then-freckles" skin!)

Thuggees are a bit older than that film :). Although possibly still fictional.

(I voted for Fighting Ablatives--thought I'd better apologise for that in advance!)

Oh yes, I know. But I like the fictionalized-to-absurdity version. The regular fictionalized-for-racist-imperialism version isn't such fun.

your header/title has gone brown again...

Yes, every time I put a poll in. Such an ugly brown, too. Well, I'll let the poll run through Monday and then it'll be gone.

If you want minions so bad I can probably loan you a zombie or two...

Editorial Anonymous said...

I don't know. Zombies sound hard to feed.

Sarah Laurenson said...

Zombies really like brains. Could be hard depending on how much you are surrounded by the brainless.

Now weredingos are another thing entirely.

I'm voting Anonymati.
(Although)"mati" in the Malaysian language means "die." That fits the evil laugh I think.

As an author, it is my certainty that slush puppies was in fact the best possible choice. Nothing else captures so precisely how your slobbering readership leap up at you, tails wagging as they beg for attention and affirmation.

As an editor, it's your perogative nix it nevertheless...

Anonymatopeons! That's fabulous!!

My second fave is Anonymati.

I've only been a lurker...do I even have a right to vote????

Aw, slobbering puppy readers...
that's sweet.

I haven't seen the film, so I still prefer the original scary Imperialist version :).

EA- I have a special set of low-maintenance zombies just for first time minion users like yourself. They are strict herbivores, who prefer wilted vegetables that have sat to long at the back of the fridge, they are well-trained, and not likely to attack guests.

I offer a full refund if they eat a family member or pet :0)

P.S. For a modest fee I can upgrade you to the Zombie Attack package. The ZA's are trained to hunt down truly awful query letters in the slush pile, track down the authors, and pin them to their desks until they learn to spell.

I can be paid in recipes or references, your choice.

"Bad Pennies"
"Slushoholics"
"Humbled Masses"
And my favorite:
"Masochists"

It occurred to me we could be Sauruses -- as in little dinosaurs, thesauri, sore writers.

If the blue slush monster is the mascot, don't we want to relate in some way?

Brontes, Tyrannos, Sloths, Dactyls...

Call 'em ... Sycohphantamites!

Or, sycophantosores!

Haste yee back ;-)

Slushie Lushies is too temping.

Anonymati sounds way cool!

The problem with most of your choices is that they are pretty difficult to spell. Although, if you keep a key on your computer set to throw that word in whenever you needed it, that might help you. Wouldn't help us, tho.

Slushsauri? It's kind of nice it has an automatic slurring built in and we'd all sound drunk when we said it.

Editorial Anonymous said...

You all should have thought of that before you suggested those names! Mwah-ha-ha!

I like Anonymati. The whole secret society thing appeals to me and has definite evil possibilities. Is "anonymatus" the singular form?

Slushies is cute, but doesn't seem particularly evil to me. Although there is something evil about coming across as not so evil, but really being pretty evil (like your lovely slush monster). And I've always liked the idea of an evil overlord referring to his/her followers as pets or poppets or something like that.

Ablative somehow reminds me of the word abattoir, which is more disgusting than evil.

I'm torn between Anonymati and Slushies. I may even lose sleep over it. So, now you're torturing your loyal readers. That IS evil.

LOL Good idea to name us. Voted! :)

EA--Revision is our lives. We'd understand if you revised your poll.

You all know that Slush Puppies is a kids' drink, yes? The 7-11 icy-blue/red/sour drink served at little league snack shacks and the like.

Have a great Monday, everyone. Welcome to 2009!

Isn't "Slushie" the name of the Slurpee-like drink sold by the Kwik-e-mart on The Simpsons? Or is it Squishie?
