Timmy!

Newsflash:
Squirrels? Over. Haven't seen a squirrel in ages.
Currently: Timmy. Every fricking character in slush is now called Timmy, and I can't look at another one.

I know, I know, you can't anticipate how unoriginal you're being when you choose your characters' names or species.

Well, I don't care. Stop it.

  2. I swear on my firstborn that I have no character named Timmy, nor any variation thereof. But then, I'm also not writing children's lit. :)

I feel badly for you, but thanks for the laughs.

  6. Ick. You have my sympathies. "Timmy" makes me think of old Lassie episodes. I don't think I could name a character Timmy without cracking up.

Random fact...The last two baby boys I've seen have been named Brooks and Trae.

  8. Guess I watch too many kid shows as Timmy Turner came to mind. Maybe I can ask his Fairly Oddparents to change some of those Timmy's for you.
Oh, BTW, I have a Peter I could throw into your slush. :-)

  9. Unless they're a girl and then they're named Lily. I have seen too many of those this month.

  10. Oh, great, Miriam. Now I'll have that stupid Lassie theme song whistling in my head all day.

  11. Hahaha, this cracked me up! What a great way to start my day, thank you! :o)

  12. Current characters in manuscripts/dummies I am working on... Do the following pass the non-cliche/non-overused list: Theo; Preston; Marissa... and we are expecting our first child in December... how's Mirabelle strike you?

  13. I hate the name Timmy -- sounds too much like "timid" and if you're going to do that, why name the character "shy" or "nondescript?"

I love using baby name books to name characters, I just stay away from the "classic names" sections. You really do want something hip and with it especially for YA. A friends daughter (who is a freshman in high school) has kids in her class named Aspen, and Tribecca, for god's sake.

  14. My slushees currently have turkey, not Timmy, on the brain. I guess it's about time for the yearly onslaught of my-family's-"unique"-take-on-Thanksgiving stories. It would be more annoying if it wasn't a small relief from show-and-tell and dying grandma themes.

  15. Ha, ha ha, Sminthia. That was my evil plan all along. Soon the whole world will be whistling "Lassie", and having visions of gray-scale collies.

    Maybe that's how Armageddon starts...

  16. Ooh... How about a little boy named Timmy who's grandma is dying, so the family celebrates one last thanksgiving at her hospice!

  17. Ack... Sorry for typos... it's the flu talking, not me.. =)

  19. Have you ever noticed that any character in a book or movie, named Timmy, is either: pitifully small, disabled, orphaned, socially awkward, or disturbed?

  20. Newsflash:
Squirrels? Over. Haven't seen a squirrel in ages.

Canada is still over run with squirrels, maybe it's the tough winters, maybe it's all the tree's???:)
Whatever, "Scardey Squirrel" has three out in the VERY popular series (Canada and US) and I imagine number 4 is in the works!
Timmy? uck, yuck, phoooey! Now Timmy the Squirrel? THAT would be torturous.
Of course, using that South Park character, Timmy could still work, in a sarcastic kind of way:)

  21. You're such a Scrooge. Timmy's a beautiful name. Timmy Timmy Timmy. Tiny Tim Tim Timmy. Oh Timmy Tim.

  22. Over here in Oz we have Tim Tam - an absolutely yummy chocolate biscuit. I'm sure any Timmy would love them...

  24. I can't get "Timmy!" out of my mind...I need to go watch a South Park episode now, I haven't watched in a few years.

  25. Timmy, Tommy, Bobby, Billy - come on people. . . aren't those like Susie, Mary, Sally and/or Jill?

  27. You know? This post got me thinking..

Your cute slush monster could be a T- Rex (short for Timmyrannosaurus rex), who secretly hates his name and loves spending his days devouring every single Timmy character submission. ;o)

  28. AHAHAHAHA! I was going to let Buffy know about this, but I see she's already here!

Too funny that this particular Timmy post is garnering so many comments. It's like a post I had last summer about mustard. I think it was my most popular post.
