Must admit I'm looking forward to the Shower-and-Cocktail winner especially.
At least I know what MY next blog post will be, the day after the results LOL. Knowing the group here, this will be better than Oscar night for laughs, horror and pure charm.
oops, I meant to also ask, what is the connection between the use of Robert Munsch's name and the award title? Just curious:) I was quiet impressed that you knew of this Canadian Author, as most of my US friends have never heard of him:)
Most of your American friends haven't heard of him. Really, Chris? Wow. That surprises me. I would say he is a household name here...not my thing, but his book is quite popular in the States.
Christine, I think the connection is that his most famous book in the U.S. is LOVE ME FOREVER, which a lot of people find pretty creepy. (A mother sneaking into her adult son's bedroom to rock him on her lap?)
Kind of unfortunate, since he's written so many other wonderful, hilarious read-aloud books.
Christine, I think I'm the only person here who openly likes that Munsch book. I used to read it to my boys, and every time I came to the part where the mother became too old to walk, I bawled my eyes out. My husband walked in one time and yelled at me to stop reading that book to our children. Something about messing them up. So I hid in the closet and read it. (okay, not really the last part. but everything else...) :-)

Ahhhh, thanks Emay, I would have never made that connection:) Sorry chriseldin, I'm one who never liked that book (I think for me it's the illustrations too, just not my taste) but your NOT alone, as isn't this book STILL on the best seller list and it's like 30 years old? I'm glad to hear he IS popular in the US, most of his work is hilarious, very on the edge for it's day (farting, smelly socks, girl power IE: Paperbag Princess) and he is a really NICE man on top of it all. Can't wait to see who gets that award:)
I never knew what that book was about until I recently bought it. I just knew I saw it everywhere, and knew it had to be a famous children's book. Somehow I thought it had to do with potty training (due to the picture on the cover). I read it to my 15 month old son in the middle of the mall last week, and I started crying in the middle. (And I do think it's creepy that a little old woman would sneak into her son's house in the middle of the night.)
Isn't this the book with the kid sitting on the bathroom floor pulling all of the loo paper off. The whole image is like the visual equivalent of nails on a blackboard to me. I am sorry but no.
Yay! I can't wait to see the results, especially the funny ones!!
ReplyDeleteYou rock, EA!
ReplyDeleteI didn't enter, but I'd like to see the ones that actually work. I can create my own bad ones, I don't need any help with those...

...of course, you know I'd get a critique on my pitch on another site today and now I've already revised it... *sigh*
ReplyDeletewOOT!
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to it, although I didn't enter. My good pitches were horrible and my bad pitches weren't funny.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to this.
ReplyDeleteI learned what a hook was from Miss Snark's happy hooker crapometer.
I'll be learning about pitches here. Can't wait!!
:-)
I've been following this, I can't wait to read all the entries!!!:)

I better start mixing the martini's. I'll need at LEAST one if it's one of the best (as if), and need many, many more if it's worst.

I can't read that book out loud to my boys either. It makes me sob every time.

ReplyDeleteEd. Anon,
ReplyDeleteAre you just going to post the "winners"? I wonder if you could post all of them so we can enjoy the creativity of your audience.
And learn what works and what doesn't.
Just a thought.
You should take part in a contest for one of the best blogs on the web. I will recommend this site!
