I, like many other people, was biting my nails. If you use the strictest interpretation of the Newbery and Caldecott terms and criteria, it's possible to argue that Hugo Cabret, which relies equally on its art and text to tell its story, might not be eligible for either award. (The horror. How could it not be considered for one or the other?)
Well, the Caldecott committee (and I agree that it's a better fit for the Caldecott than the Newbery) came through. You all rock.
Congratulations, Brian!
Here's where you can find most of the awards.

Wonderful. I saw him speak about the book and his porcess at SCBWI NY 2007, wonderful, and so glad he got it!
Awesome. And well, well deserved.
Hoorah!!!
Good stuff!
I was not biting my nails, cause I KNEW it would win. I also KNEW the newbery.
I'd say I was a know-it-all, but the printz definitely threw me for a whaaa?
Wonderful! It's an amazing book that I just recently stumbled across. Glad to see it's being acknowledged for the greatness that it is.
I was visiting "my spot" at Borders over the weekend before the awards and there were maybe ten or more copies of Hugo on a shelf all alone. A little voice in my head said, "It's going to win the Caldecott on Monday!" And it did!

Sorry, this is so long, but I must share... My whole family recently read this book together. It started out as a chosen book by my third grader for a book report. OK, it was not her choice, but it was mine, as I knew I would have to read it along side of her in order to help with the report. To be fair, I told her to take out another book from the library too (of her choosing!) and if she reallly didn't LOVE this book, (as I prayed she would), she could switch to the other book. As a fellow children's book writing, hoping to be published, I was routing for Hugo Cabret to be her chosen book. So, how did it go?
Well, by the end of the first reading, not only was she hooked, but soon we were joined by my 5th grade daughter and then my husband.
Each night, the four of us squeezed into bed, reading and slowly turning each illustrated page, to reveal the secrets held within Hugo Cabret.
When I heard Hugo Cabret won the Caldecott, I was so esctatic, like I had won alongside of him. It's a GREAT book!
Oh, and that OTHER book my daughter took out from the library... Hmmmm, yeah, where did that go?
