One of the new year's suggestions was that this blog should adopt a mascot. As a fan of the vicious poodle of Snark, the idea appeals to me.
Unfortunately, I have no artistic ability. If anyone feels like making me one, here's what I'd like: a godzilla-type monster named "slush" looking a bit dull-witted. I'm particularly fond of this cutie from threadless.com, but alas, he seems to know where he's going.
threadless rocks.
ReplyDeleteI'm on it! I'll knock out some rough sketches later today and see what you like and go from there.
ReplyDelete-Andy
He's pretty cute, too. I doubt slush is that cute.
ReplyDeleteAaa! I'm so excited! Instant gratification has that effect on me.
ReplyDeleteGo Andy Go!
ReplyDeletevery cool idea
ReplyDeletecan you animate him so he eats misdirected submissions?
Oh yes, yes, animate him!
ReplyDelete(I'm all for more work when it's Andy doing it...) :D
Hey, EA! Thanks for all the insider info you give us-- we all totally appreciate it. Here is my quick digital sketch of a slush monster:

I like it DH. You need to have words on the paper, and crumbs of paper coming out of his mouth or perhaps his ears.
ReplyDeleteHere's my shot...http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=eatc7.jpg
ReplyDeleteLet's try that again:

Nice Gin. Apparently that monster has some nasty halitosis going! ;)
ReplyDeleteWow Gin, it looks as if your monster has been eating a LOT of slush.

I have a thing for monsters, and I'd love it if you wanted to use one:

ReplyDeleteSorry I couldn't post this sooner. Internet is fussy. Comcast needs a STERN talking to!
There's a few different versions on the same idea. Super rough but it was fun!
let's try that again... apologies

Good ideas, ae-- subtle but easy changes with a big impact:

Okay, now back to work!
Well, dh, I think so but they are just my fanciful notions. That is just what I would do. You do what you want to do. It is your monster, after all!
ReplyDeleteI have a monster, too. But he is going out in samples. He's not really a Godzilla, anyway.
You guys all have great ones.
Can't wait to see who the winner is!!!
Andy,
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it's just me, but I had a heck of a time getting to your pix. Seems the blogger cut off part of your link.
Add slush.jpg after the _ for anyone else wanting to see Andy's entry but not able to get the link from here.
Yes indeed... blogger is being a pain.
ReplyDeleteThe image can also be seen on my blog...

EA,
ReplyDeleteYou have so many interested illustrators, that you should have a monster of the month...or week!
I'd jump in down the road when projects are behind me.
I posted my contribution on my blog: http://kristivaliant.blogspot.com
ReplyDelete"Slush" may be a bit overbearing at times, but he's just an overgrown monster toddler who wants to play a publishing game with you.
Okay, in the end I couldn't resist the challenge either. I pictured the slush monster more like a directionally challenged tourist...

or (if I have the same problems Andy did), you can see him on my sketch blog at:

That was fun. Total procrastination, but fun...
It's all great. I'm so impressed and touched! And I had hoped to get these up on the blog, but yesterday and today and tomorrow and god help me, probably Thursday too, have become a welter of work issues. Will get back to this as soon as I can. Sorry for the delay! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't resist doing a pencil sketch of "Slushy" too.

Well, my monster isn't so dull-witted, he's more crazy. I guess he could have a less manic side too. Anyways, I wanted to contribute with my thanks that you run this blog. It is helpful and entertaining!

Why not make it a contest for illustrators? And have some of your editor associates judge the winner? Maybe offer a small prize as an incentive, as if illustrating a mascot for an editor's blog wouldn't be enough!
ReplyDeleteI'll send a sketch, too.
Love your BLOG!
